Say hello to Shapehead — a full face-covering helmet! After watching these concept studies i got triggered to create an anamorphic design. And this is the first result. The goal of this art project is to transform a flat sheet of paper into a finished Shapehead through folding and sculpting. Inspired by Origami. This 3D mockup is made by i2 who are helping me to make project Shapehead reality. Stay Tuned.

i’m packing for Barcelona. My business partner (and favorite music editor) Ivo Samplonius is asked again by Radiodays Europe to do his famous high-energy talk about Imaging and Production. This time the conference will take place in Barcelona at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona. i’m looking forward to visit this imposing exhibition and arts centre and it’s great central open-air space, called Pati de les Dones.

Just recently i set up Smplify — a Tumblr for inspiring photography. Smplify is an online mood board showing strong, conceptual, minimalist photographs with no words or explanations. Smplify does the hard work for you by simply selecting the most interesting photographs on the web and displaying them in an elegant on-going feed. That’s the idea behind it. New Work, New York. i’m currently sound designing a mini road movie for Heineken, which will be shown on ‘the big screens’ around the world. Like the One at Times Square New York, but also in London, Tokyo, etc. The film is directed by Ben Heppener. i’m also working on the Sound Design for My Green World.

At the moment i’m redesigning this site. It takes quite some time to create something ehh good. Or at least to make v3 a bit better then v2. The approach that works best for me is removing all the ‘superfluous’ stuff. Keeping things as minimal as possible. The new design will be online at the end of Q1.

i’m self-studying photography for a little while, and yeah that’s going well. There are parallels with Sound Design. It’s about technique and creativity. Capturing, composing, processing. For audio you need a microphone and for photography a lens. It’s also about which brand; better results are achieved with proper gear. And so i come to another parallel, and we end up twice in Germany. i waited almost a year for this lens and it finally arrived. The Leica Summilux-M 50 mm f/1.4 ASPH. Also called the best 50mm in the world. Optical and mechanical perfection. Like my Brauner VMX microphone, this beau-ti-ful piece of glass is hand crafted by our neighboring friends in Germany. A masterpiece representing the true essence of photography!

Serious plans. Serious book. Designing a recording studio is more than just soundproofing. Interior design, lighting, furniture, ... Everything must be right. At least if you want a creative and inspiring workspace. Roger D’Arcy and Hugh Flynn started building sound studios from 1987 and made many groundbreaking designs. Recently they summarized their projects in RA-The Book. i know what i’ll be reading this weekend!

PressPausePlay is a documentary film exploring the digital revolution and the effects it’s had on art, music & literature. Beautifully shot. Powerful. Containing interesting interviews with some of the big names. And what a great title! A must-see for anyone with creative interest.

Op 4 oktober (Dierendag) werd Kenny.nl, de nieuwe Kennisnetwebsite voor kinderen in groep 1, 2 en 3, gelanceerd in vogelpark Avifauna. Niet toevallig want Kenny is een vogel! Kenny woont in een koekoeksklok, maar vliegt ook graag rond. Op zijn site wijst Kenny kinderen de weg en laat zien waar ze leuke spelletjes, filmpjes en verhalen kunnen vinden. Kenny is ontwikkeld door Evident Interactive. Het fraaie ontwerp is van Martin Strieder (Noodle Kings). De stem van Kenny is opgenomen bij C72

Transhuman is een informatieve documentaire over een kleine groep die zichzelf transhumanisten noemt. De dood accepteren zij niet als vanzelfsprekendheid, ze willen hun hersenen uploaden in een computer. In de film wordt onder andere filosoof Anders Sandberg (foto) geïnterviewd. Regisseur Titus Nachbauer sprak bij mij de voice-overs in. Transhuman is genomineerd voor de Tuschinski Award Regie. Bekijk de film in de nacht van 27 op 28 november op Nederland 2.

Hologic, Inc. is een ontwikkelaar van medische apparatuur gericht op de gezondheid van vrouwen. Al zo’n tien jaar maak ik bij nagenoeg alle wereldwijde communicatie-uitingen van deze healthcare onderneming het geluid en de voice-overs. Ik vind het bijzonder dat ze al die tijd bij mij zijn gebleven, ook na de beursgang en de enorme groei van het bedrijf (omzet $10 billion). In opdracht van HollandCentraal heb ik het geluid gemaakt voor de campagne ‘Beleef een zomer vol kunst en cultuur op Nederland 2’. Een omvangrijke productie die bestond uit het ontwikkelen en maken van sounddesign, voice-over opnames en geluidsafwerkingen.
